Jeannie not only is blessed with a talented family to support her artistic development, but she is also a native of a beautiful country to find inspiration from when creating her artworks.  Like many of the women from Utopia, Jeannie became acquainted with modern art through the community projects in Utopia that occurred in the late 1970s and 80s.  Through their first community project, "Utopia: A Picture Story," Utopia emerged as an artistic community and it was at this time where the women learned about silk batiks. Jeannie’s art has featured in well-known art exhibitions across Asia, the USA, Europe, the Middle East, and Australia.  Her art is also featured in the National Gallery of Australia. Design Inspiration Passed down from her father’s side, the story of “Yam Dreaming” underpins many of Jeannie’s artworks.  In the paintings, you will see her highlight various stages of the plants' growth and parts including the seed, leaf, and flower.  The yam plant is vital medicine for Aboriginal People and hence, many of Jeannie’s artworks are titled, “Bush Medicine Leaves”. About Jeannie Mills Pwerle Jeannie Mills Pwerle born in 1965, is from the community of Utopia, 300 kilometers northeast of Alice Springs. Her traditional country is Irrwelty and Atnwengerrp and her mother and uncle, both famous artists, are Dolly Mills Petyarre and Greeny Purvis Petyarre. The yam's remarkable root structure is represented by the linear work in Jeannie's artworks, while the seeds are represented by the dots. The Anaty have an ancient Dreamtime myth that artists are taught as they get older. Indigenous artists are able to pay homage to the Anaty and urge its continued renewal by representing it in their artwork. Jeannie's work is distinctive and instantly recognisable. Her paintings, with their many colour tones, create fascinating items in the home since their colours shift softly, deepen, or brighten with each nuance of ambient light. In her childhood, Jeannie was exposed to the success that Indigenous artists experienced as they experimented with acrylic on canvas. She inherited the Anaty (Desert Yam Bush Potato) technique that led to the development of her painting style. Design Inspiration Jeannie has developed her own unique style while still representing the bush yam from her country. They are wonderful choices for those who enjoy colourful and modern interior design decor. Joy Pitjara (Petyarre)

Joy is from Alhalkere Country in Central Australia's Utopia region, where she was born in 1965. Joy was one of the first Utopian women to work with Batik, and her work is featured in Robert Holmes 'Utopia – A Picture Story Court Collection. Joy transitioned from batik to canvas painting in 1999. Her stories about the Pencil Yam and women's ceremonial Dreaming stories have made her famous.
